ezgif has been the go-to website for quick GIF jobs for years, and it’s genuinely useful. Giffiti does many of the same jobs as an app on your Mac.
ezgif: a toolbox in your browser
ezgif offers dozens of free tools: video to GIF, cut, crop, resize, add text, effects, optimize, split into frames, and converters for many animation formats, plus video and audio tools. It works in any browser. Most tools upload your file to its servers, where files are deleted an hour later, and video to GIF accepts files up to 200 MB.
Giffiti: one app, nothing uploaded
Giffiti reads your videos where they are and saves exports where you choose. Instead of moving a file from tool to tool, you work in one project with a timeline, captions, effects and undo, and you see the size estimate as you go. When you’re done, export the format you need or fit under a size.
The short version
For a one-off job on someone else’s computer, ezgif is hard to beat. For regular GIF making on your own Mac, especially with private clips, choose Giffiti.
