Kap and Giffiti both help you turn what’s on your screen into something you can share. They split the job differently.
Kap: a lean recorder
Kap records your screen and exports GIF, MP4, WebM or APNG, with optional audio, click highlights and trimming. Plugins add sharing to GIPHY, Vercel and Streamable. It has builds for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, needs macOS 12 or later, and its source code is public on GitHub.
Giffiti: a GIF studio
Giffiti records the screen or camera too, then opens the recording in a full editor. Add captions that move, layer clips on a timeline, apply effects, and shrink the file to fit where it’s going.
The short version
If you want a light recorder with audio and plugins, Kap is a good fit. If the recording is the start of a GIF you want to polish, choose Giffiti.
