Gifox and Giffiti both make GIFs on a Mac, but they start from different places.
Gifox is built for quick captures
Gifox sits in the menu bar. Pick an area or snap to a window, record, and share. It can show the cursor, clicks and keyboard presses, and it can record a single window even if it moves or gets covered. Its editor trims, cuts, crops and rearranges, and it shares to Dropbox, Google Drive and Imgur. The free version limits recordings to 10 seconds and adds a small watermark; Pro removes both for a one-time price.
Giffiti is built for making the GIF
Giffiti records too, but the recording is the start. It opens in an editor with a multi-track timeline, animated captions, 29 effects and 11 transitions. Exports go beyond GIF to APNG, HEVC with transparency and more, and it’s free with no time limit.
The short version
For fast one-off captures from the menu bar, Gifox is quicker. If you want to caption, layer or polish what you captured, choose Giffiti.
